March 17, 2010 - Democracy for America Endorses Lew Frederick for Oregon State House
BURLINGTON, VT – Democracy for America, our nation's largest progressive political action community, announced its endorsement of Lew Frederick for Oregon State House. Frederick is running to represent District 43.
A longtime local DFA leader, Frederick has dedicated his life to public service. Growing up in civil rights-era Atlanta, he says he was called to action by Martin Luther King. He answered that call first as a teacher, then as a journalist, and later as director of public information at Portland Public Schools.
"Lew knows the problems that face Oregon and the country today are affecting real people," said DFA chair Jim Dean. "As a cancer survivor, he advocates for health care reform. As a union leader, he's seen a tough economy force working people out of their jobs.
"Considering Lew's lifetime of community activism, making an endorsement in this race wasn't a hard decision."
Democracy for America is a key endorsement in races like this one, bringing in donations from progressives and providing volunteers to participate in door-to-door, grassroots outreach. DFA has helped elect nearly 600 progressives up and down the ballot.
